wheels and tires

March 14 2013

Probably one of the most agonizing decisions to be made when building a car has to be the selection of the wheels.  It will completely effect the overall appearance of the car, at least as much so as the final paint job.   And considering I don't have a car yet to try them on and step back to have a look, I have to make a decision based on my what looks good to me, what I like or don't like and of course what is available that meets the geometry requirements of my car ( ie: diameter, width, offset, bolt pattern etc).   There are seemingly endless brands, styles, materials, colors, sizes................on the internet.  I'll keep this short and ask you to believe me when I say it was a very hard decision to make.  But in the end, I was able to find a wheel that I found both appealing and met all my requirements without compromising anything.  Here is my selection..........in black of course.

Front : 17 x 7 ET40
Rear: 18 x 9 ET38

Here are the wheels after they were just delivered.  I am very happy with the quality and the style.  I think they will suit my black 355 Spider very well.

The tire selection was a much easier one to make once the wheels were selected.  Based on the overall diameter I required and the tire width that suited my wheels, I settled on Dunlop Direzza DZ101 as follows:

Front: 215 / 45 / 17
Rear:  265 / 35 / 18
